Two Categories of Flair

Working flair and Exhibition flair are similar on the grounds that they both require precision and practice.
However the use of Exhibition flair has become a competition oriented style where significantly greater risks are being taken.
Working flair, which is much more common, focuses more on delivering drinks to customers while still ensuring visual entertainment.

Flair bartending is the practice of bartenders entertaining guests with the manipulation of bar tools, flipping bottles, flaming up liquors or even performing close-up magic tricks.
A bit of history...

Around 1 870, Jerry Thomas became well known for his showmanship when he poured fiery streams of boiling water and flamin g whisky and mixed an original cocktail called the Blue Blazer.
Reportedly while Thomas was making the drink, President Ulysses Grant was so impressed that he gave Thomas a cigar.
At the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco, Thomas was earning $100 a week—more than the Vice President of the U.S.A.
